Hounded Questions Week 1

Questions Week 1 (March 5th): Chapters 1 to 5
1) Kevin Hearne had the most perfect beginning for this book:  "There are many perks to living for twenty-one centuries, and foremost among them is bearing witness to the rare birth of genius."  If you were to live for centuries what do you think you would be excited to see?

I would be excited to see if we, as a race, can finally learn to get along with each other.  I love technology, so would love any new gadgets that made life easier or at least more interesting.

2)In the 2nd chapter we learn about the amulet and its protection powers!  Do you think having met the Morrigan and heard about Aenghus Og that it will be enough to protect Atticus?  I mean the Morrigan has a point about hot chicks coming after him and his defenses might be down! He is very male!

The amulet is important in saving his life, but is not the only way he gets out of trouble.  He has studied martial arts, sparring with his vampire lawyer to increase his speed.  And if Atticus is swayed by a pretty face, well, he can be just as distracting to a girl.  He is a hottie, after all.

3) The literary world's coolest dog is introduced in this chapter!  Did you love Oberon immediately?  Show me a picture or describe the type of animal you would love to have as a talking companion! (Cat, Dog, Mouse, Sloth, Horse---what is your pick--pictures please)?

LOVE Oberon!  He steals the show in every scene.  Especially when he makes comments and Atticus has to not react because he is talking to someone else.  I think a dog is a great choice for a companion,  less self-involved than a cat would be, more "portable" than a horse and blends into any social setting.

4) In this chapter Flidais asked Atticus what his name is and then precedes to ask if anyone actually believes he is Greek?  He says nobody pays attention to names here.  Do you know what your name means and where it comes from?  Or do you have a name you wish had?  Let's talk names!
I think knowing the origins of names is interesting, but doesn't define our ethnicity as much as it used to.  People are too mobile, and there is a lot of intermingling of cultures. I've always wanted an Irish name because that is my favorite country and culture.  Can't say I am 100% Irish (who can, really?) as I also have Scottish, English, German, French, and Chippewa ancestors.

5) We learn about Atticus' lawyers in this chapter, a rather unique combo!  Without jumping ahead, would you hire a lawyer combination of two supernaturals who on the surface would appear to be natural enemies or at the very least two very Alpha attitudes? What would be the positives and negatives of that decision.

The situation that his lawyers have is actually very well thought out. They have different "territories," i.e day vs. night, so that keeps the potential for trouble down to a minimum.  If you are a supernatural being yourself, nobody else would do as lawyers hired to protect your interests.  A Muggle just wouldn't understand what was at stake.

Kevin Hearne and Hounded read along

So, Kevin Hearne announced a blog read along of his book Hounded.  Since I didn't already have a book blog, I have now created one so that I can participate (and maybe win a prize!).

He is now one of my favorite authors.  I read all three of his Iron Druid Chronicles books, HoundedHexed, and Hammered right in a row.  I can't wait until April 24th when Tricked comes out.  A must buy for me!  His books feature a 21-centuries old druid named Atticus, his Irish wolfhound Oberon (who can "talk" to Atticus and often steals the scene with his comments), and lots of other interesting supernatural beings.  I particularly loved his lunch with Jesus.  Fantastic!
